The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) evolved as a direct result of the experience of the Diggers of 1914-1918 — their mateship, their post-war needs and welfare, and their sense of what it meant to be an Australian.

That ethos of compassion and service remains today the motivating influence of the League.

The RSL existed then and still exists now to ensure that programs were in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-service Defence Force members and their dependants; and promote Government and community awareness of the need for a secure, stable and progressive Australia.

Ultimately the RSL exists to serve the interests of its members, veterans, the ex-service community and members of the Australian Defence Force.

DOERS, are The Social Committee of the RSL and as such we are answerable to the Sorell RSL Committee.  Our aim is to support the Sorell RSL in its aims and ethos, by raising money, not only for the RSL but also for the Sorell Local Community, by organising a range of events and functions ranging from Mystery Trips, Disco Nights and GM54K Auctions to name a few.

We have supported GM54K for some years and this year, we raised over $25,133 for the sick children at the Royal Hobart Hospital.  We were immensely proud to have achieved this from what is a relatively small but big-hearted RSL and local community.  This has now raised the bar for 2016, in which we are again intending to support this local worthwhile cause.

2015, last January also saw the inaugural Sorell RSL Summer Festival, which we hope to repeat in 2016.  We also support the Ningana Nursing Home.

We are always looking for new members to join the RSL either as Service, Affiliate or Social Members and then if you have the enthusiasm to help out the DOERS.  We do need to boost our numbers.

We understand that not everyone can support us all of the time but any input is always welcome and gratefully received.  Please come along and support your local Sorell RSL.
